The Darvocet's constituent propoxyphene has direct cardiac effects which include decreased heart rate, decreased contractility, and decreased electrical conductivity. Propoxyphene is a potent blocker of cardiac membrane sodium channels. So, a common side effect of using Darvocet is slow heartbeat complicated with shallow breathing.

Other serious adverse effects include:

  • feeling light-headed, fainting;
  • anxiety, unusual thoughts or behavior;
  • seizures; or
  • nausea, stomach pain, loss of appetite, itching, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).

  • Among less serious side effects we may list feeling dizzy, headaches, blurred vision, persistent dry mouth, decreased appetite, urinary retention and constipation or diarrhea.

    Most of these side effects are explained by the liver toxicity of acetaminophen. Remember that its overdose can be dangerous or even fatal.

    Tell your doctor about any unusual feelings and reactions you may expirience during using Darvocet.

    Darvocet can cause allergic reactions. You should avoid taking the medication if you are allergic to propoxyphene or acetaminophen.
